Among the many qualified candidates for school board trustee, the person who stands out the most to me is Madhavi Sunder. Her passion for education and equality are as unforgettable and bright as the orange of her campaign color.
She demonstrates her commitment to the school system on a regular basis. The most impressive way she has done so is her district tour of all the school sites. At every stop, she spoke with teachers, parents and administrators to hear what they have to say about the numerous issues facing the system today. As an educator herself, Madhavi understands when to listen and defer to other people. Having an open mind, the willingness to hear new evidence, is absolutely crucial to solving the complex problems we have before us.
Combined with her expertise as a law professor, Madhavi is more than capable of being a powerful synergistic force in the school district. Where budget shortfalls have previously grounded the board’s ambitions, Madhavi sees opportunities for innovation. Partnering with entities like those she has experience with would result in a beneficial outcome for all parties.
Apart from her skills and ideas, her tenacity is something to be remarked upon in its own right. It sounds a little corny, but anyone who has met this candidate can tell you why I analogize her to a certain pink bunny that marches endlessly to its own beat.
Having lived next door to her for nearly a decade now, I can personally attest to her drive, intelligence and concern for other people. I know she would make an excellent school board trustee because I know she will demand nothing less of herself. Her determination is a force that should be channeled for the betterment of the public school system in our town.
