Minimize emotional emphasis, please

By From page A12 | October 04, 2013

Recently, I wrote a scathing letter to the editor about what I saw as unnecessarily graphic and inappropriate pictorial coverage of a local crime story.

Today, I am happy to be able to compliment the choices made with regard to the coverage of the alleged murder of a 5-year-old in our community. What you provided on this occasion was factual information provided with a photo that certainly served adequately to identify the accused without undue emotional emphasis.

I hope you will continue your future reporting of this and other emotionally laden crime stories in this factual, informative manner without unnecessary sensationalistic overlay.
