It’s not often we get to see directly what a new candidate will do in office before he’s elected. With John Munn, candidate for Davis City Council, we have that opportunity. With that insight, we know he’s the man for the council job.
We know because as an elected official for Davis’ school board, he met near identical circumstances to those the city faces today. And he addressed them in a manner that drew the admiration of those who served with him and those who observed his effectiveness as a member of the board.
When he came into office, the school district was approaching serious financial straits, morale among staff and teachers was low, and infrastructure needs for our schools were high. With his colleagues and without an agenda, he helped open the district’s budget up to the public, regained the trust of those who worked for the district, and obtained favorable terms for the building and renovation of the schools.
Our city’s services are suffering, pension and health care costs continue to soar, and our roads and other essentials the city requires to function optimally have been seriously neglected. They need the attention of a council member like John Munn. He has vowed to examine the budget thoroughly. He has promised to seek solutions that work. We know he will. He has before.
When John completed his term with the Davis school board, he was applauded by his compatriots. This newspaper praised him for his accomplishments. They saw then the man we have before us now, and they pronounced his work a job well done.
It is for us, the voters of Davis, to acknowledge that assessment and that proof and ask that he once again work on our behalf for our community. It is for us to vote for John Munn for Davis City Council.
