The Republican John Munn is running for City Council and has received unusual support from the left in this election. In an effort to determine Munn’s stands on various issues, I found Project Vote Smart online and would appreciate his updating his 2004 record for the voters.
According to Project Vote Smart, “John Munn Jr. refused to tell citizens where he stands on any of the issues addressed in the 2012 Political Courage Test, despite repeated requests from Vote Smart, national media and prominent political leaders.”(http://votesmart.org/candidate/political-courage-test/29543/john-munn-jr/#.U30vkWFOX5o)
Was this true?
And from his responses to the 2004 Vote Smart “Political Courage Test”:
“Abortions should be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape. Abortions should be legal when the life of the woman is endangered.
“Individuals’ and political parties’ contributions to state legislative and gubernatorial candidates should not be limited. Undecided for PACs and corporations.
“California should not recognize civil unions between same-sex couples. California should restrict marriage to a union only between a man and a woman.
“Race, ethnicity or gender should not be taken into account in state agencies’ decisions on college and university admissions, public employment or state contracting.
“Citizens should be allowed to carry concealed guns.
“Work requirements should be increased for able-bodied welfare recipients. Recipients’ benefits should be limited if they have additional children while on welfare. Marriage promotion programs for welfare recipients should be supported. Welfare funding should be slightly decreased.
“Parents should be provided state-funded vouchers to send their children to any public, private or religious school.
“The death penalty in California should be used. Penalties and sentences for drug-related crimes should be strengthened. Minors accused of a violent crime should be prosecuted as adults.”
In addition, a charge has been made on the Davis Vanguard that as an employee of the California Department of Forestry, Munn allowed Charles Hurwitz’s Pacific Lumber Co. to cut down protected California redwoods. Is this true?
