Naming rights for streets

By From page A6 | December 26, 2013

Regarding the appropriate street names for the new streets in what used to be a tomato sauce cannery, I suggest all the street names be historical, so that the last use of the property be remembered. Some appropriate names are Hunts Lane and Marie Callender Walk.

Also, some names can display our Davis diversity, like Hebrew National Boulevard, Chef Boyardee Highway, Camino Rosarita and P.F. Chang’s Court. And for the people who are into cycling and other exercise, how about Healthy Choice Highway? We shouldn’t forget those people who don’t exercise — a street should be named Banquet cul-de-sac, it goes nowhere. Orville Redenbacher Street is just too colorful to leave out.

Finally, if the City Council bargains hard, maybe the city can obtain compensation for each name it choses; if Sleep Train pays for its names to be on a sport arena, perhaps ConAgra will compensate for the naming right of the neighborhood streets.
