The elected office of Yolo County superintendent of schools has never been more important to the Davis community. Beginning with the passage of Assembly Bill 1200 (Eastin-1991), the Yolo County Office of Education has held legal oversight of the Davis Joint Unified School District budget. Under California’s new Local Control Funding Formula, YCOE will now oversee the district’s instructional plan as well, annually reviewing the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan to ensure that educational goals align with budget expenditures.
As a member of the Davis school board with responsibility for our students, I believe we need an educator with deep, relevant experience in this important public office. That’s why I support Sam Neustadt for Yolo County superintendent of schools. As an assistant superintendent in the Solano County Office of Education, Sam understands the role of county superintendent and the need to partner with the Davis school district to meet the educational needs of our children.
Before joining the Solano team, Sam served as principal of three California Distinguished Schools and as a classroom teacher innovating programs and instructional techniques to improve student achievement. Sam has been recognized as Teacher of the Year and Special Educator of the Year by his peers.
With nearly 30 years of experience in public education, Sam is well-prepared to serve our students. As the parent of a child in Davis schools, Sam understands our community’s values. Davis puts education first.
