Not all HOAs are suspect

By From page A6 | July 03, 2014

I am writing in response to an op-ed piece published Sunday by Elaine Roberts Musser titled “Be Forewarned About Homeowners Associations.” I think the article was a valuable piece to make people aware of the possible pitfalls that can occur. And the examples Ms. Musser cited are certainly reprehensible.

Having said that, however, I am on the board of a homeowners association and have been for 14 years (having serving as president the past 12 years). And we have a property management company that we have had the entire time I have been on the board. They are diligent, hard-working and have the utmost integrity.

My only wish about Ms. Musser’s op-ed is that she would have referenced the fact that there are a lot of very good homeowners associations and very good property management companies. Otherwise, the article seems to imply that all HOAs and property management companies are suspect, which is certainly not the case.
