On a recent Friday afternoon, my daughter and I decided to see a movie downtown. I also had two errands to run before the movie began. I could have gone to the big-box store for both items but I like to shop downtown, too, and try to keep my money in our core shopping area.
I parked on G Street and we went into our first stop, purchase happily made. Then we went around the corner to F Street, our last stop before heading to the F Street theater just in time for our show.
After our second purchase was complete, we started walking toward the theater when I realized something. Our parking space would expire before we got out of our movie! So annoying! You can never eat, shop and go to a movie without having to move your car, or use the theater parking, which I find very out of the way when with a little one in tow. Or pay to park, which I find insulting.
No problem, we are going to the theater anyway, so we will use the lot. Go back to G, get in the car, drive to the F Street theater garage and circle inside for 10 minutes. No parking spaces! OK, so now what? I’ll tell you what, drive back to the E Street Plaza paid parking garage and angrily plunk $3 in the machine so I don’t get a $40 ticket while trying to spend my money downtown.
Despite running back to the theater, we missed the beginning of our movie and I have to say I was pretty angry. Does the city of Davis want us to spend our money downtown or not? Stop making it so hard to do so. Something needs to change here.
