Peterson listens and cares

It’s really tough to be a teacher right now. It’s equally tough to be a parent with three school-age kids confronted with the stark reality of our current budget crisis. Like most other Davis residents and teachers, I am concerned that the increase in class sizes due to budget cuts will make it even harder for our students to achieve.

I want to protect our great educational programs and save jobs in our community. I want quality education for the gifted student, the struggling student and all those in between. I want all of our students to feel safe, encouraged and courageous. And I want my voice and the voices of my neighbors heard by our school board.

Nancy Peterson has my vote for Davis school board because she listens closely. What I most appreciate about Nancy is that even if someone has a differing opinion, it is important to her to understand what motivates and drives this opinion. She seeks to understand all sides of an issue, not just the one she embraces.

Nancy is open to finding that nugget of truth in a different stance that must be given additional thought and consideration. She does not discount the power of hearing, really hearing, what others have to offer because she knows that this will lead to learning, cooperation and informed decision-making. She is reflective, engaged and compassionate, and she will work hard for our children.

Change is not always easy, but with Nancy Peterson’s leadership and commitment to protecting our Davis schools, she will stand up for what is right, challenge practices that can be improved and advocate for our kids. Please join me in voting for Nancy Peterson and Measure E on Nov. 6.
