Please restripe lanes, now

By
From page A6 | October 18, 2013 |

Clearly visible striping is essential both day and night for the safety of everyone on our roadways. It makes possible the smooth flow of traffic on heavily traveled roads and safely guides visitors and newcomers to town who don’t yet know all the “twists and turns” and alignments of local streets and intersections.

Lane lines and center-line reflectors matter much at intersections because continuing lanes do not always line up, and it is important for the driver to be able to sight across the intersection to see exactly where the lane picks up again. Some cities even point small connecting dots across the intersection for added assurance and safety.

Believe it or not, almost every single street and thoroughfare in the city of Davis — north, east, south and west — is at this time in egregious need of restriping! Both yellow or white center stripes and white bike lanes have faded away to nothing! Many reflectors are missing.

Action, please. And before the winter rains; faded lines disappear altogether when wet.
