"How are Davis High students supposed to be feel when they read that their fellow student was profiling them and thinking about murdering them? How does it make residents of Lillard Drive feel to learn that a budding serial killer roamed their street with a baseball bat?"

As a resident who lives on Cowell Boulevard approximately three blocks East of the Northup/Maupin residence, knowing that the nights that I left my bedroom and kitchen windows cracked open a few inches to let in the cool night air last April could have resulted in my demise or a very unpleasant altercation (given that Mr. Marsh was apparently roaming eastward down Cowell from his home on Lillard on the night of the slayings), it makes me feel naive and also very lucky that I have never suffered illl consequence from my choices. I will never, ever again take my safety for granted.

I personally appreciate the Enterprise's reporting and the detail provided. There is no sense in whitewashing news stories to make them more palatable for sensitive individuals.

I agree with Fred Harvey. I found Ms. Keene's article to be well-written and considerate. She reported on the details of the testimony in a straight-forward and factual manner. I did not find any part of the story to be inflammatory, excessively graphic or biased. I personally was relieved to finally read an account of the evidence the investigators found, and I would have been very disappointed if the Enterprise chose to whitewash the reporting with a generalized accounting of the hearing. As a reader and citizen I hope to find out as much as possible about this case. As for parents concerned about their children reading the story, I suggest that you review the paper before handing it to the kids. I don't think that the Enterprise stories regarding the Garzon case or the more recent arrest of the Mattos' were any less lacking in what some label "grisly" details. Personally I consider detailed reporting to be good reporting. It's a newspaper, folks, not a fairytale.
