Transitional kindergarten? It’s called preschool.
So what if the cutoff date for students entering kindergarten was moved from December to September? It really doesn’t change how parents should plan their child’s education. Just as before, most children who do not meet the age cutoff go to preschool.
Any good preschool will prepare the students for kindergarten, whether it’s private or state-funded.
I do not understand the Davis school board’s support of transitional kindergarten. It makes absolutely no sense to use much-needed funds for such a small group of students. In this time of budget deficits, any money intended for education would be better suited to fund programs, teachers, class-size reduction, etc… For once, I am in agreement with Gov. Jerry Brown.
