Ruling benefits all Californians

By
From page A10 | July 03, 2013 |

Like many in Davis and across California, we welcomed Wednesday’s Supreme Court decisions clarifying that same-sex couples here could legally marry and enjoy the federal benefits accorded to all married couples.

The past four years have given everyone time — whether in neighborhood events, chats with co-workers or family gatherings — to thoughtfully discuss and come to know and understand the devastating impact that comes with denying same-sex couples the right to marry.

These actions by the Supreme Court, and the recent decision by Boy Scouts of America to allow gay Scouts to enroll openly, affirm the dignity of all Californians regardless of sexual orientation. We are confident everyone can move forward and see the many benefits of these recent events for all who live, work and raise families in California.
