We are sad that innocent people die all over the world each day. In the United States, we have the National Rifle Association. The NRA and the powerful gun lobby in America are destroying our nation.
Every day, people kill other people in cities and towns all over the country. Yes, we do have the right to own guns. However, the guns will never make us safe.
The shooter in Colorado, James Eagan Holmes, was a top student at UC Riverside. He flew under the radar. Few would ever suspect him of committing such a terrible crime. He shot people whom he did not know just to please his own inner demons.
In reality, his crime is really our crime. We allow guns to be purchased easily in all parts of America. We allow the right to own multiple guns above the damage that guns bring to our world daily.
In America, the gun is king and killing is accepted and normal. In the political debate, we focus on the economy, our environment, and health care. All of these issues are important. However, why do we seldom mention the vast amount of guns and gun violence in America? The answer is that the sale of guns is a multibillion-dollar business.
We had the killing of a little girl named “Heaven” in Chicago, the shooting of Congresswoman “Gabby” Giffords and the murder of Trayvon Martin. Enough is enough. We must change our laws to end the easy access that people have to get guns and dramatically lower the amount of guns in America!
Guns turn the American dream into a nightmare. The sad truth is that in America, we follow the golden rule. Those who have the gold, make all the rules!
