An example of talking past each other. Both expressed valid points about apples and oranges. Sometimes a birth requires the high skill services. It's the mother's risk-reward decision. And no matter where you receive your hospital care, inspect your bill for spurious charges from that specialist who waved at you through the door ($300), or the aspirin you decided not to take ($30).

Woodland Hospital is good, but it does not surpass Sutter-Davis, which was recently designated one of the few hospitals in the country deemed a Baby-Friendly Hospital. This designation is given by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund, encouraging and acknowledging hospitals and birthing centers with an optimal level of care. Sutter-Davis offers skin-on-skin contact within the first hour of birth for mother and baby, as well as extensive breastfeeding support. Labor and delivery rooms are private, and water birth is offered as an option. The soon-to-be-finished Anderson Lucchetti Women’s and Children’s Center in downtown Sacramento will provide the highest level of neonatal and pediatric intensive care, pediatric cardiac care, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric cancer services, and high-risk and conventional maternity services to families in 27 counties. This level of patient care will be unmatched once the facility is open for service, and gives the public even more good reasons to choose Sutter for their birthing and delivery needs.

Sutter-Davis Hospital is a good hospital.
However, Woodland Healthcare (hospital plus clinic) is even better. That is why you would go outside of Davis for your care.
Woodland Healthcare is only a 15 minutes drive from Davis. What many people fail to realize is that Sutter-Davis Hospital is a very small hospital. It is smaller than Woodland Hospital. It lacks the full team of specialists that Woodland Hospital has.
As one example- if your new baby, unfortunately, had a health crisis, there is no neonatal ICU at Sutter-Davis Hospital. There is as Woodland Hospital. There are no in-house cardiologists, pulmonologists, or many other specialists at Sutter-Davis Hospital. Woodland Hospital has a nationally certified Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center, again which Sutter-Davis lacks.
Woodland Hospital and Clinic together see roughly 120,000 patients A YEAR; dwarfing Sutter-Davis Hospital.
