Telemarketers are ‘spoofing’ me

I am not a telemarketer. I say this because there is apparently a scam of which I was unaware until today. It’s called “spoofing” in which someone receives a call from what looks like your telephone number, with your Caller ID, so you answer the call … and then it is a telemarketer.

I had a call from someone I used to know about 30 years ago and she says she has been getting several calls from me this week, none of them actually from me, but from a telemarketer.

After an hour and a half on the phone and chat line with AT&T (they disconnected me twice), I have “Vince’s” assurance that he will “personally” see that this doesn’t happen again. I am not holding my breath.

But I think it’s good that others are aware that this is going on and that it is against the law, but apparently nobody is really paying much attention to it.

In the meantime, if you get a telemarketing call from me, believe me, it is not from me!
