I want to thank the Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig for “Operation Vigilance,” a compliance and enforcement check on sex registrants conducted in late May. Keeping a close eye on sex offenders is crucial to prevent reoffending. Although we don’t like to think that 370 known rapists and child molesters are living in our neighborhoods, we can rest easier knowing they are being held accountable.
The harm done by child sex abuse cannot be overestimated. Michael Reagan, adopted son of Ronald Reagan, speaks openly about his lifelong struggles after being molested by a camp counselor when he was 8, and about the pornographic pictures made that kept him in fear.
This type of trauma can lead to substance abuse, mental and emotional symptoms such as depression and anxiety, and physical symptoms such as tension stomach aches and headaches. For more, visit www.acestudy.org.
If you have any concerns about your children’s behavior or symptoms, please ask if anyone has touched them sexually. Healing begins when a child can talk openly. Meanwhile, our thanks to the Operation Vigilance team for keeping children safe in Yolo County.
