The more we learn, the better
I can’t get over how some people misconstrue the purpose of NEWSpapers! Thank you, Bob Dunning, for supporting The Enterprise’s longtime crime reporter Lauren Keene.
It must be pointed out that Daniel Marsh ideated killing from the age of 10, so it seems peculiar to me that the woman Bob cites wants to shield the child of the same age — even though it’s a rare 10-year-old who rushes out to grab the paper.
Adults can censor their own squeamish selves if need be; for my part, I want all the details presented in the objective fashion Lauren Keene has mastered.
This is a rare (I hope) case of tragic obsession, and the more one learns, the better.
I am moved by and tremendously respect the public statements of Chip Northup’s daughter Mary.
Perhaps not irrelevant: I spent an hour reading the long interview with Pope Francis, a deep and complex man. Dostoevsky — whose novels deal with tragic obsession — is his favorite author, and mine as well. Newspapers were one of Dostoevsky’s sources for character studies of transformative insight and humanity.
