I have very closely followed John Garamendi’s career since the spring of 1978, when I heard him speak on the Quad at UC Davis. I have always liked what he has done and agree with his stands on the issues.
I am very upset about recent hit pieces from his opponent’s campaign, regarding Garamendi’s stance on Medicare. I have been getting emails and fliers in the mail painting Garamendi as a mortal enemy of Medicare and betrayer of seniors. This picture distorts the facts completely. In truth, Garamendi has been a champion for health care and Medicare for many years.
Here are just three examples from his long public service career that illustrate his commitment to health care: 1) When Garamendi was California’s insurance commissioner 20 years ago, he pushed for coverage for all Californians, 2) He served as a health care adviser to President Bill Clinton and 3) As a congressman, he backed President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
I urge everyone to look at the facts behind this issue. If you do, you will realize the utter dishonesty of the mailers and email and more importantly, you will realize that Garamendi will fight for seniors and Medicare as our congressional representative.
