Thank you to the Davis community for their continued support of our schools and, in particular, our Davis High School band program. All through the night of Jan. 18 and into the morning of Jan. 19, the Davis High band students played music, enjoyed snacks and games and raised funds for their trip to Disneyland in the spring.
More than $2,000 was raised, resulting in a win for their incentive: At 6 a.m. the students designed and shaved the beard of their director, Tom Slabaugh. By sunrise, he was sporting a curling mustache on one side of his face and mutton chops on the other side.
Thank you so much to Slabaugh for not only working with our students each day but staying up all night long and offering a fun reason to donate and support the band program. Special thanks to our guest conductors, Erich Drossel and John Cargile.
Thanks also to the local pizza places for their generous donations: Woodstock’s, Round Table and Lamppost. Special thanks to Lynne Rumery, Band Booster alumna, who organized the donations and drinks, and all those contributed to the fundraiser.
