My friend Robb Davis is running for City Council, and I hope you will consider voting for him on June 3.

I first met Robb working at Freedom from Hunger, though I really got to know him on a long drive to visit a small-but-mighty women’s self-help group in Burkina Faso, West Africa. I was new to international development work, and Robb patiently answered my questions about food insecurity, access to malaria treatment, helping people empower themselves, working within a community that had many challenges and adversities, and engaging the men in a village to support what was viewed as a women’s program.

I watched Robb honor the village chief with a chicken and spend time talking and listening to him, before we entered the circle of learning with the women. I watched him give gentle guidance and support to our in-country partners, as they led the group. And I watched him delight in the women as they described how they could share their knowledge with others, and build a stronger community, especially for their children.

I’ll admit, at the beginning, Robb intimidated me just a little. When he asked me a question, he really wanted to hear my response. He wanted to know what I thought, what I envisioned and how I would proceed. He treated me as though I had something valuable to share. Robb paid attention, and that meant I had to step up and pay attention, too.

Robb has been my friend for 10 years now. Robb doesn’t just talk, he acts, and he inspires me to do the same. He is smart, he is compassionate, he does his research, and he believes we can all make a difference and build a stronger community.

Our family will be voting for Robb Davis on June 3. I believe in Robb, and I believe in our community. I hope you will join us.
