One of Yolo County Clerk-Recorder Freddie Oakley’s favorite sayings is “vote early, vote often!” During the statewide presidential elections in November 2004 and November 2008, Oakley, in partnership with UC Davis Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef and ASUCD, established an early voting polling station on campus. In 2004, roughly 1,100 Yolo County voters cast ballots; in 2008, more than 2,400 voters did so prior to Election Day.
In sharp contrast, senior appraiser Dave Schwenger failed to vote in the statewide presidential primary in June 2008 and June 2012. In fact, Schwenger didn’t even bother to vote when his boss, Yolo County Assessor Joel Butler, was on the ballot in June 2010.
And Schwenger wants to be Yolo County’s chief elections officer? Seriously?
Conducting fair and open elections takes experience, dedication and commitment. There’s only one candidate with those qualifications — Freddie Oakley.
