Am I the only one, or does anyone else see a pattern starting within Davis? The city has already sunk nearly half a million dollars into studying how to take over the electricity distribution in Davis from PG&E and has authorized more funds for the study.
Isn’t this the same city that is treating water rates like a used car salesman? What, we don’t like the possibility of rates going up 200 percent and based on only partial period measurement? OK, would you buy it for an 8 percent discount so it’s only up 175 percent?
Huh?
I, for one, would prefer to stay a PG&E customer where I know my rates are reviewed by the California Public Utilities Commission. Remember, just like our proposed water rates, the city does not require PUC review for whatever rate scheme it comes up with.
If we can’t trust the city with our water rates, who thinks we can trust them with electricity rates?
Maybe we should reverse course and actually talk to a private water company like California Water about their taking over our city water service. A sale could potentially plug our financial hole and eliminate the need for more sales tax.
We need less government, not more.
