We appreciate quiet, too

By From page A10 | January 12, 2014

Thanks to letter writer Raoul Renaud for raising the issue of speeding cars and quality of life.

In the Arlington/Lake/Russell Boulevard area west of Highway 113, we are exposed to super-loud motorcycles at all times of day and night. The screaming pitch of these machines breaks right through my earplugs and closed windows. I realize many motorcyclists want loud bikes, but there’s a difference between “noticeable,” and “painful.”

Just like removing graffiti, limiting nighttime light pollution and picking up litter, a quiet environment is a key factor in our quality of life. You can learn more about the law and noise pollution at noisefree.org. I encourage my fellow Davisites to tell a noisy motorist or motorcyclist that quiet is much appreciated!
