We need a mix of parking spaces

By From page A10 | September 19, 2013

I read with interest Sunday’s op-ed piece concerning downtown parking. I wouldn’t mind paying for long-term (more than one hour) parking downtown, if it will avail parking for people who need less time downtown. It would have to work better than the ludicrous E Street lot that has the only paid parking within the borders of Yolo County. Have you ever seen it full during hours when parking isn’t free?

More timed (20 minutes or 30 minutes) free spaces for short-term parking and paid spaces for long-term parking are feasible. Also, a customer loading space at any merchant selling large items (e.g., Ace, furniture stores), fashioned after those at stores like Ikea, could be worked into the inventory.

Oh, the Chamber of Commerce is concerned about visitors feeling welcome. In the myriad “wayfinding” signs and directions they envision in their opening scenario, they should add a reminder for visitors to bring their own bags in which to carry their purchases.
