We owe this to our children

By From page A16 | March 03, 2013

Just recently, one of our community’s deep wells in northwest Davis had to be shut down because of excessive manganese, as if our community needed another reminder of the problems with relying solely on wells for our drinking water supply.

But this one is a particular stark reminder for me personally. That’s because this contaminated well happens to be right across the street from where my children will be going to school next fall. When I drop my girls off, I do not want to point it out to them and say, “That’s the legacy we’re leaving to you and your generation. Good luck!”

And I don’t believe you do either. That’s because we are a community that has a strong track record of making the smart and necessary investments for the betterment of our future. You can see it in things like our parks and schools.

Now it’s time for this generation of Davisites to make one of the most important investments we’ve ever had to make — by securing a clean and reliable supply of water. We owe it to our children and our children’s children.

Please join me in voting yes on Measure I.
