As Wendy Weitzel reported in her column “Comings & Going” on Sunday, the El Macero Pharmacy closed last Thursday. This closure is a loss to the residents of Davis and to those of South Davis in particular.
The pharmacy offered more than prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs, etc. Its offerings included a great selection of high-quality, non-allergenic cosmetics and some of the goods that were to be found in an old-fashioned pharmacy/five & dime stores that some of us remember from our youth (think the old Quessenberry’s Pharmacy).
The atmosphere in the pharmacy last week was that of a wake as many faithful costumers said their goodbyes and made reluctant peace with the closure. The pharmacy and its staff were friends of the community and their loss is cause for mourning. Goodbye and good luck to all of them. You’ll be missed.
