We’re reveling in our equality

By From page A12 | April 20, 2014

We just had our best April 15 Tax Day ever! For the first time in at least a dozen years, we were able to go out for lunch instead of organizing and participating in a protest in front of the Davis post office with signs that said: “We Pay Our Bills. We Pay Our Taxes. All We Want is Marriage Access” and “No Special Rights For Straight People.”

This year, it is a wonderful feeling to know that all same-sex legally married couples in the United States can check the “married” box and file only one federal tax return no matter where they live.

Equally good is the way we feel when we think about all the support we have received from our local community. Our supreme thanks to all who have come to this protest over the years, to those who stopped to talk with encouraging words, to those who proudly accepted and wore a “We All Deserve The Freedom to Marry” sticker and, of course, to The Davis Enterprise, which covered this important and effective event for so many years.
