Sunday’s article about interdistrict school transfers omitted one very important figure from the story. It was stated that the 452 interdistrict transfer students are not a burden on the Davis school district as they bring in about $5,200 per student per year in Average Daily Attendance funds. This amounts to an additional $2.35 million in yearly gross revenue to the district.
The obvious question with regard to revenue effects is, what does it cost to educate a student in the Davis school district — more or less than $5,200 per year? In the absence of that figure it is not possible to determine whether these transfer students are a net asset or a net burden on the school district.
