Where is Davis’ tolerance?

By From page B3 | October 10, 2012

On March 4, 2008, the Davis mayor, various community officials, the chancellor of UC Davis and other UCD dignitaries signed “a set of community principles drafted and affirmed by Davis major community stakeholders.” These signatories “affirm the inherent value of each and every member of our shared community.” And they “… appreciate the diversity of viewpoints held within our community.”

It is with a heavy heart that I must report an egregious violation of those principles. On the morning of Oct. 5 at the corner of Mace and Cowell, a beautiful Romney/Ryan sign appeared. That same day, as the sun set, the sign stood proudly as a testament to the “diversity of viewpoints held within our community.”

Sadly, some miscreant; possibly a sojourner from Interstates 80, a member of a less tolerant village, an intruder in our harmonious community, ripped the sign from the stakes holding it and spirited it away in the dead of night. The sun rose on Oct. 6 and our community could no longer share in the “diversity of viewpoints.” The Romney/Ryan sign was missing!

Oh you nasty intruder, you have besmirched our proud town whose citizens join me in weeping with heavy hearts.
