Work on gun control instead

By From page A6 | August 28, 2014

If the odds of Davis having a school active-shooter situation or a barricaded hostage confrontation are high enough to warrant us owning a Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle, doesn’t this mean it’s time for us to start working on gun control?

From what I know of recent school shootings, by the time the MRAP would arrive at the scene, the fatalities have would already happened. Let’s stop them before they happen. Let’s ban the military weapons for which this machine is armored. I don’t hear of school shootings in countries where these weapons are illegal.

Perhaps, with the hours our officers would have spent training to use the MRAP, they could instead work with other police departments, mayors, pediatricians, emergency room physicians and public health professionals to lobby Congress to ban assault weapons.
