Wrong trees, wrong place

By From page A6 | June 04, 2013

I read in the paper┬álast week that the City Council voted to keep the stone pines in along Lake Boulevard. The city of Davis preaches, “Plant the right tree in the right place.” Now the City Council recommends, “Keep the wrong tree in the wrong place.”
Trees are a renewable resource, so replacing the wrong tree with the right tree makes sense to me. I live on Catalina Drive and the pine trees the city planted have lifted the concrete sidewalks. Tree roots can do as much damage to a sidewalk whether it is constructed with concrete or asphalt.
