I’ve known Jose Granda for several years with our mutual involvement in a local Boy Scout troop. He is a highly intelligent and caring father. He is not afraid to voice an intelligent argument or question the status quo.
Dr. Granda helped lead a major effort, in coordination with the UC Davis Engineering Club and UCD engineering staff to teach the engineering merit badge to dozens of young men to try to inspire them to go into engineering. He also has worked on receiving grants for young people to learn hands-on activities in robotics. I also know him as a man who is extremely and personally concerned about the rights and opportunities for people with disabilities.
I don’t always agree with Dr. Granda, and he being an intellectual, accepts and respects intelligent discussion, compromise and differing opinions. We need this type of intelligent discussion on the school board.
Being a parent of two public school children, and a product of Davis public schools myself, I am willing to pay more in the hope that it helps ensure our great school system. But if I donate more, or pay more in taxes, I want that money wisely spent for the best interest of our children. I want the school board to consider themselves both advocates for our children and also wise stewards of money that we entrust them with.
Therefore, I’m voting yes on E (this time), but using one of my votes toward fiscal conservatism by voting for Jose Granda.
