The Measure C campaign has a lot of folks to thank for the amazing win in the March 6 election.
First and foremost, we would like to thank the voters of Davis for continuing the proud Davis tradition of supporting education.
Because of you, our students will continue to have music, science, libraries, reading specialists, athletics, counselors and availability of multiple foreign language programs, Advanced Placement classes and secondary school physical education programs.
A two-thirds majority is not easy to achieve, but Davis showed that it continues to care deeply about education with the passage of Measure C.
We’d like to thank all our volunteers who phone-banked and walked precincts. We thank all those that wrote passionate letters to the editor and op-ed pieces. We thank all our parent and community endorsers.
We give a big shout-out to Davis teachers and school staff who helped on the campaign during night and weekend hours (after spending all day at school with our kids).
Davis school librarians tabled every weekend at the Davis Farmers Market. We are in awe of their energy.
PTAs, PTOs, booster clubs for schools, athletics and music got the Measure C message out to supporters.
Special thanks to The Davis Enterprise for its fine election coverage. Columnists Bob Dunning, Bruce Gallaudet and Jann Murray-García changed hearts and minds. Jeff Hudson just does plain fantastic reporting on our school issues.
Thank you to all our donors, including Coldwell Banker-Doug Arnold Real Estate, The Yackzan Group, The Conaway Preservation Group and Jamie Madison.
We thank Coldwell Banker-Doug Arnold Real Estate and Lyon Real Estate for allowing the campaign to use their offices for phone banking. Thanks to Our House Restaurant and Sudwerk Brewery for opening their meeting rooms to us at their establishments.
Delaine Eastin and Marty West opened their homes for Measure C fundraisers. Dan Wolk organized a “volunteer raising” party for Measure C. Kim Eichorn hosted our Election Night party.
Thanks to Rich Reed and Michelle McKim for their graphic design expertise. We give a round of applause to Maria Sigua of Ziegler & Associates for her campaign data work.
We were lucky to have a campaign committee of experts and energetic souls: Sheila Allen, Martha Beetley, Nora Brazil, Greg Brucker, Tsui Chang, Gina Daleiden, Juliet Crites, Stuart Drown, Kathy Froman, Kari Fry, Tom Hagler, Ahna Heller, Hiram Jackson, Joy Klineberg, Gail Mitchell, Pam Pacelli, Ingrid Salim, Robert Woolley, Carri Cummings Ziegler and Jay Ziegler.
We’d particularly like to acknowledge the work of Beetley and her husband Hagler, who staffed our phone bank and trained volunteers every night for three weeks straight, and also helped with precinct walking.
Pacelli and Heller created an incredibly effective precinct walking program, and Klineberg scanned phone banking data every night for hours long after the phone bankers had made their last calls. Campaign consultant Jay Ziegler also was on the job every day of this campaign. You don’t often find volunteers who will commit to that kind of time.
Finally, we especially thank our Davis Board of Education trustees for believing in our community and fighting for our schools. They charge forward each year as state money for education decreases and do their best to preserve our school programs. These five people are some of the most dedicated, brave public servants you will ever meet. Thank you, Susan Lovenburg, Tim Taylor, Richard Harris, Gina Daleiden and Sheila Allen for all that you do for the students of Davis.
Our Davis community is indeed fortunate to have this tremendous support for quality public education. Thank you, Davis.
