Members of the Davis High School Lady Blue Devils basketball teams — varsity, junior varsity and freshman — made Thanksgiving a little brighter for 40 residents of the University Retirement Community’s assisted living unit, delivering fruit baskets Wednesday. The girls gathered at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the DHS gym to pack the baskets, which they delivered later that day. “The residents at URC love the visit and conversation with the players, and my players really love the interaction with these folks,” varsity head coach Karen Foster said. The team is planning another service project in December, purchasing and wrapping gifts for underprivileged children and youths in Yolo County. “I always preach to my girls that we are so much more than just basketball players and that the Davis community really gives to all sports programs here at the high school, and we couldn’t do it without their support,” Foster added. “So the Lady Blue Devils decided to give a little something back to their community.”
