Solano County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Waller and his dog Richter meet Pioneer Elementary School students Wednesday morning at a Red Ribbon Week kickoff assembly outdoors on the playground. Richter also demonstrated how he sniffs out drugs. Davis firefighters and police officers also participated, educating children about safety and making healthy choices. A California Highway Patrol helicopter landed on the field to cap off the event. Red Ribbon Week, observed each October, is an alcohol, tobacco, drug and violence prevention awareness campaign. Sue Cockrell/Enterprise photo
