“Birds, Berries and Bouquets,” a celebration of the conservation work of the Yolo Land Trust, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Hedgerow Farms, 21740 County Road 88, north of County Road 27 between Winters and Madison.
Participants will enjoy “Strawberry Tres Leches Shortcake” prepared by Tucos Wine Market & Café of Davis, ice cream from Vic’s Ice Cream of Sacramento and Yolo County wines from Simas Family Vineyard, Route 3 Wines, Marr Cellars and Rominger West.
Music will be provided by the Davis Jazz Combo, and there will be a raffle of Yolo County food.
Walking tours of Hedgerow Farms by John Anderson will allow guests to view native plant assemblages and the wide variety of birds, native pollinators and other beneficial insects that are attracted to this farm. All are encouraged to bring binoculars and friends to enjoy the bouquets of spring in the country.
Hedgerow Farms produces California native grasses, sedges, rushes and forbs seeds and plants. John Anderson and his wife Marsha are well known for their innovative strategies in farmland habitat restoration, landscaping and environmental education.
The fundraiser will celebrate the Yolo Land Trust’s 23 years of farmland conservation. The Yolo Land Trust has conserved 51 parcels of farmland for a total of nearly 9,000 acres of agricultural land, riparian corridors and Swainson’s hawk habitat in Yolo County permanently conserved. These farms remain in private ownership and on Yolo County’s tax rolls.
