Discount for electric mowers still available

Discounts for new electric lawn mowers are still available to Yolo and Solano County residents who recycle gas-powered mowers.

The Yolo-Solano Mower Exchange allows residents to turn in their gas-powered mowers and receive a $100 discount on selected electric mowers. The program is open to all residents of Yolo and Solano counties thanks to funding from Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District and the Bay Area AQMD.

“This is an opportunity to upgrade your lawn mower at a great price point,” said Mat Ehrhardt, Yolo-Solano AQMD’s executive director. “You can eliminate noise, air pollution and the need to fill up your mower with gasoline by participating in the program.”

The program will run through May while supplies last. More information is available at http://ysaqmd.org/MowerExchange2012.php.

I participated in this exchange and I continue to be very happy with our electric mower. It's lighter and we don't breath any exhaust fumes when we use it. At the time I was very hesitant to participate in the exchange so a neighbor and I decided to share one of our old gas mowers and the new electric mower, which we attained by turning in one of our old gas mowers. After all, do we all really need to own, store, and maintain our very own mowers? (Of course, this is the next best thing to not maintaining a water-intensive lawn at all but I digress.) We have not used a gas mower since.

Glad to hear you enjoy your electric mower, Jon. I'm hearing great reviews on the new models in terms of performance.

Ola! Davisenterprise, Thanks for that, I just bought a new electric lawnmower. Instructions say to oil it lst and last of season. As this electric lawnmower is brand new, do I have to oil everything now or is it already oiled when you first buy it. Hope you can help. Where I bought it from was a discount place. Big mistake. They couldn't tell me when I went back. Cheerio
