Electric mower exchange program returns

The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District’s mower exchange program launched Monday.

Under the program, residents who trade in a gas-powered lawn mower and purchase an eligible electric mower will receive $120 rebates. Residents can choose from 29 eligible models made by 10 different brands. Participants can purchase their new mowers in local stores or online.

Gas-powered lawn and garden equipment contributes to air pollution, an air district news release said. Studies show that exposure to air pollution can lead to serious health impacts, including lung ailments and increased risk for heart disease.

Replacing a gas-powered mower with an electric is one way that residents can help keep our local air healthy, said Mat Ehrhardt, executive director of Yolo-Solano air district.

“There are a number of benefits in switching to an electric mower,” Ehrhardt said. “Electricity is cheaper than gas, the mowers are easier to operate and far less noisy. But most important is the positive impact of switching on the health of our community.”

Residents can request a voucher from the Yolo-Solano air district. Residents are not eligible for a rebate until receiving a voucher and completing all required steps. Requested a voucher at ysaqmd.org/mowers or by calling 530-757-3657.
