The first World Environment Day celebration at Lake Berryessa will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4.
Visitors will participate in a group cleanup from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a picnic lunch on a lake overview platform at Markley Cove Resort.
The event is sponsored by the Lake Berryessa Watershed Partnership with funding from Anhuesuer Busch/The River Network. Solano Resource Conservation District is the lead organizer for the festivities, with assistance from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
Lake Berryessa Boat and Jet Ski Rental will participate by hauling the trash, and Markley Cove Resort will provide sodas and picnic space following the event.
“We’d like this to grow to be a really big annual event,” said Lake Berryessa Watershed Partnership Coordinator Marianne Butler of the Solano Resource Conservation District. “It’s a great opportunity for everyone who loves Lake Berryessa to come out and ‘get it ready for the season’ in a fun way.
“After the work party, people can have a quick swim and then relax over a great picnic while enjoying the gorgeous view.”
Butler encourages service clubs and other groups to consider participating. Solano RCD requests that all participants wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots and bring work gloves. Everyone who pre-registers by May 22 will get a free World Environment Day shirt.
