The Yolo Basin Foundation’s Flyway Nights speaker series will feature Charles Alpers on Thursday, Jan. 5. Alpers, a research chemist with the U.S. Geological Survey, has led numerous water-quality investigations involving the environmental effects of historical mining since 1991.
His talk is titled “A Tale of Two Sources — Legacy Mercury Contamination from Historical Mining in the Coast Ranges and the Sierra Nevada.”
The Yolo Basin Foundation offers Flyway Nights talks at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of the month from November to April. The talks are held at the Department of Fish and Game’s Yolo Wildlife Area Headquarters, 45211 Chiles Road.
