Take a walk on Quail Ridge Reserve

By May 2, 2011

The Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy will conduct a walk from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Quail Ridge Reserve.

The reserve is on a peninsula at the southwest end of Lake Berryessa, and the easy-to-moderate walk through native grasses, shrubs and trees will be led by conservancy Executive Director Frank Maurer, a zoologist and ecologist. Wildflowers should be in full bloom, and visitors will have the chance to listen to local bats and forest owls at dusk.

The temperature likely will be mild; visitors should bring binoculars or a camera, drinking water and a snack. All participants must leave the reserve at the same time. The walk will be canceled only in the event of substantial rainfall during the day.

Walkers should reserve a place in advance by calling (530) 219-4477. Donations will be accepted with gratitude.
