“Honey: The Art of Sweetness,” a special culinary and film event featuring a Davis honey producer and a talk about honey bee science, is planned on Friday, Jan. 13, at The Wardrobe, 206 E St. The event coincides with Davis’ Second Friday ArtAbout.

Admission is free.

Guests will meet Robin Harlan, the owner of Henry’s Bullfrog Bees (www.bullfrogbees.com) and pure honey and lavender products, from 7 to 9 p.m. She will offer honey tasting, followed by a talk by Emmet Brady, cultural entomologist and creator of the Insect News Network (www.insectnewsnetwork.com).

Starting at 9 p.m., The Wardrobe will host the premiere screening in Davis of the honey bee documentary “Queen of the Sun: What Are the Bees Telling Us?” The film will run from 9 to 10:30 pm.

“Queen of the Sun” is a look at the global bee crisis from Taggart Siegel, director of “The Real Dirt on Farmer John.” The film talks viewers on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive, weaving an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world, including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva.

“We are so pleased to be able to bring this multi-disciplinary event to the store,” said Heather Caswell, owner of The Wardrobe. “We know that Davis has long been regarded as a hub for ecological awareness, and the community responds well to the arts and delicious food, so this evening represents a one-of-a-kind fusion between the two worlds.”
