Visit Quail Ridge Reserve on Saturday
Local residents are invited to visit the Quail Ridge Reserve, on a peninsula at the southwest end of Lake Berryessa, on Saturday from 2:30 to 6 p.m.
The walk is relatively easy, going along hillsides of native grasses, shrubs and trees. It will be led by Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy executive director Frank Maurer, a zoologist and ecologist.
Visitors will be able to see the seasonal green perennial bunchgrasses and a few remaining spring flowers. Toward dusk, with the help of a special ultrasonic device, visitors will be able to listen to bats and forest owls.
Wear layers of clothing and bring binoculars, a camera, drinking water and snacks.
To reserve a spot and get directions, call (530) 219-4477. The group will gather at 2:30 p.m. at Markley Cove Resort and will return at about 6 p.m. All participants must leave the reserve at the same time.
Donations are accepted for the conservancy’s efforts to protect Quail Ridge lands.
