Davis police Officer Nick Gillette and Michele Salisbury, secretary at Birch Lane Elementary School, unload backpacks Wednesday morning from Gillette’s patrol car. Thanks to donations from community members and residents and staff members at the University Retirement Community, 167 brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies soon will be in the hands of Davis schoolchildren in need. Supplies included binders, filler paper, notebooks, pocket folders, pencils, pens, crayons, erasers, glue sticks, rulers, scissors, highlighters and calculators. Patrol officers are delivering the backpacks to the elementary, junior high and high schools on their beats before classes begin Wednesday. For more information about annual “Pack the Patrol Car” fundraiser, contact Trease Petersen at 530-747-5432 or [email protected].
