Art that moves you

By From page A1 | July 14, 2013

Dozens of Davisites turned out for the Discovery Art Program’s opening celebration of “Momentum: Art in Action/Creativity in Motion” Saturday at the Davis Art Center. The open house featured interactive art work and stations where visitors could learn about physics and all things that move us. There was a giant display of bicycle wheels on the wall — the kinetic playground — where visitors attached markers to the wheels and spun them to draw circles. Other guests made a bell ring by turning a crank, which turned a wheel, which rang the bell. In addition, the Art Center is organizing two community-participation murals. One, “Off the Grid,” is at the Art Center itself, 1919 F St., and the other, “Bike Fun,” will be painted on the side of Wheelworks at Third and F streets downtown. The “Bike Fun” mural will grace the side of the downtown bike shop, covering a 14-by-17-foot-tall area with two curved panels.
