HANFORD (AP) — Forecasters are warning farmers that a cold front moving into Northern California will be bringing with it some of the coldest temperatures of the winter during the next few nights.

The National Weather Service says as the front approaches the San Joaquin Valley, temperatures will drop down to the 40s late Wednesday and early Thursday.

But on Thursday night and into the weekend, forecasters say temperatures will drop below freezing, prompting the weather service to issue a “freeze watch” for the region from late Thursday night through Monday morning.

The coldest nights are expected to be Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures dropping into the upper teens in some of the valley’s coldest areas.

Officials are also warning drivers that the blast of cold air could also make for slick driving, with patches of frost or so-called “black ice” forming on roadways, especially on bridges and overpasses
