The Auburn Symphony will present a special Mother’s Day concert at the Mondavi Center at 3 p.m. Sunday. Featured will be young Russian-born pianist Konstantin Soukhovetski, who will be the soloist in the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Soukhovetski began his studies in Moscow and then came to the United States to study at Juilliard, where he earned a master’s degree. He has performed with several orchestras around the world.
Maestro Peter Jaffe will conduct the program, which also will feature the Overture to “La forza del destino” by Giuseppe Verdi, and Leonard Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from ‘West Side Story.’ ”
Although based in Placer County, the Auburn Symphony features several Davis-area musicians, including flutist Maquette Kuper and bassist Greg Brucker. Each spring, the symphony presents a concert at the Mondavi Center, which is typically attended by busloads of patrons from Placer County who relish the opportunity to hear their orchestra in an acoustically superior hall.
Tickets are $40 general, $20 for students, available through www.mondaviarts.org, 530-754-2787 and at the door.
