Author eyes ‘the stranger’

By From page A4 | January 22, 2013

UC Davis English professor David Simpson is set to deliver a talk about his new book “Romanticism and the Question of the Stranger” at noon Friday in the Memorial Union Store Lounge.

Simpson’s book addresses “the stranger”: the foreigner, the enemy, the unknown visitor and the language used to describe such figures — “the rhetoric of strangeness in romanticism” — and placing them “in a tradition that extends from antiquity to today,” according to a news release.

Simpson scheduled talk is free and open to the public. A question-and-answer session will follow.
