California author Joelle Fraser will be at the The Avid Reader, 617 Second St. in downtown Davis, at 7:30 p.m. Friday to discuss her new book, “Forest House: A Year’s Journey Into the Landscape of Love, Loss, and Starting Over.”

“This is a literary gem for anyone who has navigated the treacherous waters of loss and rebuilt a life, for those who love an expanse of sky and for those who carry books in their mind,” a news release said.

Fraser has a master of fine arts degree in nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa and is a MacDowell fellow. Her first book, “The Territory of Men: a Memoir,” was published in 2002 by Random House to critical acclaim.
